Tri-State CAMP Conference:
Standards

Attendance at a Standards Course is required of camp directors/administrators of any camps seeking accreditation when:

1. This is the first time the camp is to be visited;
2. They are new directors of already accredited camps;
3. There have been significant changes to the accreditation program (as in 2012); or
4. An individual will be taking the Associate Visitor Course.

Please continue reading to decide which course best fits your needs. One free copy of the new Standards book (Accreditation Process Guide—“APG”) will be provided to staff from each camp in attendance. Other copies will be available to borrow for use during class.

If your camp has a visitor on staff who is coordinating the visit, the Visitor Update Course also satisfies your camp’s requirement for a Standards Course. The Visitor Update Course is available online for those visitors who did not complete the course in 2014. Visitors who wish to register can do so on our Registration Page or by calling Kyle Medeiros at 212-391-5208.

Becoming an ACA Standards Visitor is one of the best ways to give back to ACA and the camp community! We are offering this course in a 1-day in-person format that can easily be added for free to your Tri-State week.

Top 5 Reasons to Become an ACA Standards Visitor

  1. Connect with other camp professionals.

  2. Have a better understanding of ACA Standards and be more prepared for your visit.

  3. Opportunity to see other camps and gain new ideas to improve your program.

  4. Receive a discounted ACA membership.

  5. Exchange ideas and tips about programming and operations within the camp community.

In the Accreditation Volunteer Course, participants identify the purpose and structure of ACA's accreditation program and become familiar with the legal implications of visitor actions, as well as develop skills in information gathering, making compliance decisions, and consistently applying the standards in a variety of situations. Attendees must be at least twenty-one years of age, a current ACA member, and have completed an online ACA Accreditation Volunteer Pre-course (information to be sent 4-weeks prior to the course start).

Accreditation Process Workshop

Wednesday, 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Room 320

The ACA Accreditation Process Workshop is an in-person course designed to provide an overview of the ACA Accreditation Process, helping you and your camp start, continue or finish up your preparation for a 2024 visit.

Every camp being visited in 2024 must have at least one person who completes this course on behalf of the camp; that person must actively assist in preparation for the accreditation visit, be engaged in on-site operations during the camp season, and participate fully in the on-site accreditation visit. All camps are strongly encouraged to complete this course by April 1. For camps new to accreditation to receive an accreditation visit in 2024, this course must be completed no later than April 1, 2024.

*Multiple people from a camp are encouraged to take this course.

Objectives:

Participants feel excited, engaged, and ready to manage the accreditation process for their camp. They know where to find and how to use information, resources, and technology provided by ACA. They can navigate the Accreditation Process Guide v.2019 to understand compliance and applicability of standards, including how to maintain accreditation through the visit and non-visit years and the purpose and steps of preparing written documentation.

Audience:

This course is designed for camp leaders preparing for accreditation visits in the upcoming season or who are new to the accreditation process. The course is also appropriate for those considering seeking accreditation for the first time.

Registration required: This is free for members. Register here.
